How can Senior Portraits change your life?

Winter Senior Robly header

Seasons Greetings!

I know it sounds a little extreme, but really, think about it… How can Senior portraits change your life? Aren’t they “JUST PICTURES” ?

First, a portrait session can boost a person’s confidence. Most teenagers haven’t had a professional portrait session dedicated to only them…. ever!  So, once all the attention is on THEM, (the planning, the shooting, the viewing and choosing session) they realize that they look and feel amazing. Your senior might even get a little pep in their step. So, how do you think your senior will feel every time they walk into the room where their senior portrait is hanging? Yep, they will feel very special because their parents love them enough to hang a portrait of them (and only them) on the wall.  And it’s not just any portrait of them, it’s a REALLY good portrait. So why do they have a sparkle in their eye? Because every time they see their senior portraits, they will remember the awesome experience they had with you while taking them.

Second, Your entire senior portrait session experience will be amazing for both you and your senior. We will be with you through the entire process, so you can relax and enjoy every step. First, we will choose a date and location for your portrait session. Then we will send you our “what to bring” guide so you and your senior can choose outfits together. On your portrait session day, we will laugh, tell stories, talk about the past, present and future. If you sit back and listen, you will learn a lot about what your teen is thinking and planning. It’s a special time to focus on your senior and celebrate what he/she has done, and what he/she is planning to do in the future.

Let’s capture your senior’s personality and record this last stage of their life before they hit adulthood. We want them to realize their true beauty so that they are confident in themselves before they go off into adulthood. Imagine the impact a single beautiful image can do for your senior’s self image?

Why am I telling you this right now… in the middle of the holidays and exams?

I’m glad you asked! If your senior is a member of the band, choir, theater, drill team, cheerleading, or plays Football, soccer, softball, baseball, volleyball, tennis… basically, all seniors who have super tight schedules, we have two full weeks off before school starts back up and you resume your hectic schedule. I have set aside all afternoon today to answer your questions and schedule senior portrait sessions.

Parents, this is your opportunity to freeze time and celebrate with your senior. After this year, your senior will be moving into adulthood. This is it… Freeze it, enjoy it, cherish it.

(I’m already crying because my daughter will be a senior next year and I’m going to be on the other side of this conversation)

Call or email today so we can chat, I’ll be here all afternoon.

Thanks for reading, Lisa

Happy 25th Anniversary Texas Tradition Photography
Yes, We are celebrating! And we want you to join us.
It might surprise you to find out that I’ve never popped a bottle of champagne.  How is that possible? Well, photographers are always photographing the person shooting that stream of happiness across the room. (I am very good at dodging that cork)
In honor of Texas Tradition Photography’s 25th anniversary, I decided to try something new.  Thank you to my friends Sandy and Kevin for helping me pull this off.  Sandy from Sandra Lynch Photography guided me in opening the bottles (it took two) and captured the craziness as it unfolded.  It was quite entertaining watching my hilarious attempts to make the champagne spew.  And also a big thank you to my friend Kevin from Stuff in the Ruff for creating an amazing winter wonderland background out of my plain brown door.

I thought Digital Photography was supposed to speed things up.

So did I! Back in the olden dinosaur days, (pre-digital) A photographer had to run down to the local professional photography store to purchase film. Then they had to take their time creating amazing images.  After the session, they took the film out of their camera and sent it to the lab for processing and proofing. When the proofs came back, about a week later, we met with the client, showed them the proofs and then placed the order. If there was a hair out of place or a trash can in the background, it was fine. The image was finished at that point.

Fast forward to digital. No, we don’t have to pay for film or processing.  We don’t even have to wait to see the image. It instantly appears on the back of the camera. However, we do have to have a super fast computer to accommodate the huge files and our huge processing and editing software.  And since we don’t have a limit on how many frames we can take per roll of film, we tend to over shoot. Our mindset has shifted to “I’ll fix it in post” . So after our session, the photographer, herself, has to process the images through lightroom and prep them for viewing and ordering. This process requires an additional monitor for the client to view the images. So, in addition to this extra time for the photographer to prep your “proof” images, once your place your order, the photographer now has to “fix” all the small details to make the image perfect.

Personally, I would not go back to film. Digital has opened up so many wonderful doors for photographers and consumers.  But, once you are able to understand how digital photography has changed the game for professional photographers, you can maybe understand their hesitation when you need just that one image by tomorrow. It takes more time than you think.

What is happening at Texas Tradition Photography? Could it be a New Limited Edition Portrait set?

YES!  It could!  If you are a long time follower of Texas Tradition Photography, then you are aware that last year was our first time in 15 years to NOT do Santa portraits.  This was a VERY hard decision for us to make, however sometimes we have to take a step back in order to move forward.

I felt that our children’s portrait offerings were become a little tired… stale… boring…etc. And for us in the creative world, this is never a good feeling.  I either want to give you 100%, or nothing at all.  I took the year off from Limited Edition sessions to brainstorm and survey and find out exactly which road I wanted to take with my children’s portraits.  My biggest goals are 1. to make it easy for my parents 2. make it fun for the kids and 3. make it exceptionally creative and unlike anything offered in my area.

There are hundreds of photographers in Dallas and I don’t want to mingle in with the crowd.  I want to stand out. And I know YOU will benefit from the year of waiting! Here is a little peek of what’s on the horizon. Just to give you a little taste, this set will be designed for kids ages… sitting up to about 8 years old.  However, I think a small family would be cute too.

We aren’t taking appointments yet, but if you’d like to save the date, it will be Thursday November 29 and Saturday Dec. 1st. Yes, two days only! In fact, if you’d like to be put on the waiting list, I will call you BEFORE I announce it!  Just fill out the form below to get on the waiting list.  More details to come!!

What Should We Wear For Our Family Portrait?

I get asked all the time “what should we wear for our family portrait?” Well, this is a great time to discuss this since family portrait season is FAST APPROACHING!! What am I saying? Family portrait season IS HERE!!

A great family portrait begins with a great family portrait session.  And the way to achieve that, is to start planning RIGHT NOW! So, before you go any further, give us a call and get on our calendar for either our Portrait in the Park Event or our Home for the Holiday Event.  Details for both of these events are on our website.

Now, let’s talk about clothing.  First, think about where you plan to hang your portrait. Will it be in your relaxed family or game room? Or will it be in a more formal room? That will help us set the style.  Going formal or casual in your dress, will depend on where the portraits will hang and what style you prefer.  After that, choose a color pallet that will go with, or compliment that room.

Now, let’s say you have no idea where your portraits will hang.  No problem!  Just choose colors that look good on your family and will stand the test of time.

To start, you might have a great dress or shirt that you LOVE and want to wear for the portrait. Great, let’s call this our inspiration piece.  An inspiration piece will give you a place to start.  Pull out a couple of colors from your inspiration piece and have everyone wear those colors.

Let’s say you LOVE blue. Everyone can wear jeans and a different shade of blue for their top.  Or have the grown ups wear similar dark blue tops and the kids wear different shades of blue.  Don’t be afraid of prints or to add a third color to your pallet.  Be creative and add a little bit of your personality to spice things up.

I hope this is some good information.  If you still need help, give me a call.  That’s what I’m here for.  I have included some samples below of some families who nailed it!  You can also check out our website for some other examples.

Don’t delay, send us a note below and we will contact you about scheduling your 2018 family portrait. Talk to you soon,  Lisa
